Temporary Injury
Although disability-related law does not mandate this, the DRC may be in a position to assist students with temporarily disabling conditions to get appropriate limited accommodations. Students who have temporary injuries such as bone fractures or surgical treatment lasting four weeks or more may, under certain circumstances, be able to use the services provided by the DRC on a short-term basis. Students interested in requesting services must first register with the DRC and provide medical documentation as noted below. **Please note that Northeastern University and the DRC does not provide any type of personal care assistance (PCA) services, or transport/transportation services.**
Commonly Used Accommodations
- With four weeks advanced notice, assistance in arranging accessible classrooms and course related meetings in an accessible location for students with temporary disability related mobility difficulties.
- With four weeks advanced notice, consultation and recommendation to Housing Office for appropriate accommodation in Residence Halls.
- Campus Orientation
- Notetaker in the classroom and exam assistance for students with temporary injuries of their dominant arm.
- Extra time on exams as needed
- Temporary Injury Disclosure Form completed by the student's treating clinician that outlines the nature and duration of the disabling condition.
- Submit a Temporary Injury Disclosure Form that has been completed by a treating clinician.
- Meet with an assigned DRC Disability Specialist to determine eligibility for and the nature of temporary services.
