Psychiatric Disorders
Psychiatric disabilities encompass a wide range of disorders including but not limited to: depression, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Adjustment Disorder, and Multiple Personality Disorder.
Psychological/Psychiatric disabilities can cause substantial and unpredictable loss of functional ability resulting in a need for varied accommodations. An assigned DRC specialist will work with each individual to determine which accommodations/services the student may need and to help the student learn how to deal with this unpredictability.
Commonly Used Accommodations
- Tape recording lectures
- Notetaker, as needed
- Extra time on exams, as needed
- Approval for a one to three day extension on homework, papers and exams when the student is unable to attend class due to short term hospitalization
- Rescheduling of exams missed due to hospitalization
- Consultation and recommendation to Housing Office for appropriate accommodation in Residence Halls
Required Documentation
- Psychiatric Disorder Disclosure Form completed by the student's treating clinician within the past six months of applying for services. Documentation must be updated annually from the appropriate licensed professional
