Petition for Reduced Course Load

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR FALL 2009

Fall Semester Tuition adjustments will be processed after 11/20/2009

Please note:

  • The deadline to submit a Tuition Adjustment for Fall 2009 is 12/09/2009.
  • Requests submitted after 12/09/2009 will be NOT be accepted.
  • Students who have disability-related functional limitations that substantially restrict them from taking a full course load may petition their Disability Specialist to take a reduced course load. The rationale behind a reduced course load is to maximize a student's abilities in order to compensate for their disability related difficulties and is approved ONLY in cases where students cannot meet the performance requirements of a full course load. To be eligible to apply for a reduced course load, a student must be registered with the DRC or LDP and provide current diagnostic documentation that verifies that his/her disability limits the ability to be enrolled as a full-time student. Students must meet with their DRC or LDP Specialist prior to withdrawing from any classes. They must complete and present the DRC Petition for a Reduced Course Load form to the DRC or LDP Specialist for review and authorizing signature. Only Disability Specialists approve reduced course loads.

Students who receive approval from their Disability Specialist to take a reduced course load for disability-related reasons may request reimbursement for the course(s) they did not take, according to the tuition adjustment policy. If the request is approved, the student's account will be credited.

The steps to receive a tuition adjustment are:

    1. Each semester students MUST meet with their assigned Disability Specialist to present a completed DRC Petition for a Reduced Course Load form for a reduced course load.
    2. Once the student is approved by their Disability Resource Center (DRC) or Learning Disability Program (LDP) Specialist for reduced course load the student completes and submits the on-line Tuition Adjustment Request.
    3. The DRC will submit all approved Tuition Adjustment Requests to Student Accounts only after the final Course Withdrawal date for the undergraduate semester.*
    4. Student receives confirmation of submission to Student Accounts via NEU email.
    5. Student Accounts reviews the request to confirm the student's course load with the Registrar and makes the account adjustment.
    6. Student receives confirmation of adjustment to his/her tuition account from Student Accounts via NEU email.

    * It is the practice of Northeastern University to bill students in advance for a full course load. Please note that tuition must be paid in full each semester in order not to incur a late fee. As well, tuition adjustments can ONLY be processed during the semester in which they occur; they can not be submitted for approval prior to a new term, nor can past terms be approved. The reimbursement to the student's account will be used toward the next semester in which the student is enrolled in classes. Please allow four weeks for the tuition adjustment credit to appear in the student's account.

To submit a Tuition Adjustment Request, please complete the online form.
