Becoming A Notetaker
The Disability Resource Center is federally mandated to provide quality notetakers to students who qualify for services. As a result, the DRC hires notetakers every semester. The notetaking position is one where students can interact with different people and have an opportunity to sit in on courses with a variety of subjects. Before you apply to be a notetaker, you should read the following to understand the responsibilities of this position.
This is not a position where students can call in sick or take time off during the semester. Students who miss class, arrive late to class or have to leave the position before the semester is over will be fired immediately and will not be eligible to apply to be a notetaker again.
Notetakers agree to adhere to all of the policies and procedures of the Notetaking position including:
- Attending 1 training session and 2 evaluation sessions during the semester.
- Attending every class assigned from the day the class was assigned through the last class of the semester.
- Writing notes that are neat, detailed, and thorough and written in dark ink on one side of the paper.
- Writing the date on the first page of notes, as well as numbering each page.
- Bringing the notes to the DRC to be scanned the same day of the class or the very next morning at the latest.
- Understanding that all information heard about the student is to be kept strictly confidential.
- Understand that notetakers are not paid for classes that they miss, classes where there is a test or a quiz happening and there are no notes to take, or in instances where the University is closed and there are no classes.
If you are interested in becoming a notetaker with the Disability Resource Center, you must complete a Notetaker Application Form.
