Assistive Listening Devices
Some hard of hearing students benefit from the use of Assistive Listening Devices (ALD’s) which amplify the sound of a speaker’s voice and filter out background noise. The DRC has portable FM devices which students can borrow on a term basis, or as needed. Contact Deaf/Hard of Hearing Services to determine if you are eligible for this service and to arrange to borrow an FM device.
In addition, several classrooms at the university are wired for use with an Audioloop device. Students can request to have the classes located in a room that is wired with an audioloop; in addition students must fill out a request with the Audio Visual department to have the loop transmitter and receiver delivered to the classroom location. This device is most effective for students with a T-switch on their hearing aids.
